Record breaking year for Dragons Community

03/02/2026

It was an award winning and record breaking 2025 for our Dragons Community team, with another successful year inspiring the local area.

A grand total of 121,731 children, adults and young people across all provisions were engaged throughout the year by our hard-working team of nine full-time community officers.

In total, more than 19,000 community guests have attended home matches at Rodney Parade in 2025.

Meanwhile, preparations for the 25/26 season began with a bang with four awesome Community Roadshows, engaging children at Abertillery, Pontypool Utd, Caerphilly and Caldicot with our Dragons stars joining in too.

Dragons players have enjoyed a guard of honour like no other from our young local club attendees, while the marquee has been abuzz with photographs and signings as our current Men of Gwent inspire the next generation.

All this happens before the beginning of each match at Rodney Parade, with half-time giving an opportunity for 27 tag games between local grassroots clubs.

Little Dragons continues to be a roaring success with 38 sessions delivered to children aged 3-6 as they take their first steps into rugby and sport, while Dragons Community have also provided twenty fortnightly over 75s active sessions held at Rodney Parade along with walking rugby sessions with more than 800 participants this year.

A total of 130 schools have been engaged with this year, which included 2,023 sessions delivered fortnightly to more than 60,000 children throughout 2025.

The school sessions have included rugby skills and learning as demonstrated by the new award-winning STEM education plan in April with 17 workshops delivered in local primary schools.

While skill camps attracted 1,960 children highlighting the strong work done in the local community.

Focusing on disability sport, Dragons Wheelchair rugby team have had 50 sessions throughout the year and continue to compete at the highest level within the UK.

While 2025 has been a bumper, award-winning year for the team, we cannot wait for what 2026 holds with plenty of camps, festivals and learning to be had in what promises to be an exciting year both on the pitch and in the classroom.
