Dragons RFC Kick Off the New Season with Partnership with Norgine: Building Healthier Futures Together!
The roar of the crowd isn't the only exciting sound echoing around Rodney Parade this season! We’re thrilled to announce a brand-new, year-long partnership with Norgine, a local company and major employer in Gwent.
Norgine have been a key employer in Gwent for over 50 years with their Hengoed based Consumer Healthcare Centre operating as a designated centre of excellence driving innovation and best practices within bowel health.
This new collaboration between Dragons RFC and Norgine will focus on health, wellbeing, and education opportunities, with the aim of reaching thousands of young people across Gwent and beyond.
The partnership will see the launch of the Norgine Healthy Dragons Programme, a re-branded and revitalised initiative set to make a significant impact in over 120 primary schools across Caerphilly, Newport, Monmouthshire, Torfaen, and Blaenau Gwent.
Over the next nine months, this active programme will deliver 2,200 lessons, engaging 66,000 pupils in vital health and wellbeing activities. The goal is to foster active lifestyles and promote healthy choices.
The partnership goes far beyond the classroom, Norgine is committed to nurturing the next generation in Gwent via a range of other activities including:
Homework Club with a Kick! Students will tackle research-based homework tasks created by Norgine. Pupils will be rewarded with Gift of Dragons Rugby tickets, and the top five most engaged schools will receive visits from Dragons' mascots Rodney and Anwen.
Inspiring Tomorrow's Innovators: Norgine will open its doors to Gwent's primary schools, offering unique insights into STEM fields, factory tours, engineering, and a world of career opportunities.
Dragons and Norgine Joint Community Charity Fundraiser: Dragons RFC and Norgine will co-create a major fundraising event to support a local charity. From match day collections to signed merchandise and player endorsements, we're pooling our resources to expand our charitable efforts.
The Norgine Mini Rugby Tournament: Caerphilly primary schools will descend upon our Ystrad Mynach training base for the inaugural Norgine Mini Rugby Tournament. Players will be on hand for photos and autographs, and Norgine representatives will proudly present medals to all participants, celebrating every try and tackle.
Mike Sage, Dragons RFC Head of Community, says: "The partnership with Norgine is a game-changer for our community work. Norgine’s commitment to health, education, and inspiring young people aligns perfectly with our values. Together, we're not just developing rugby players; we're helping to shape well-rounded, healthy, and ambitious individuals across Gwent."
Gareth Finney, Vice President Technical Operations, Hengoed, added: "We are incredibly proud to partner with the Dragons RFC. The Norgine Healthy Dragons Programme is a fantastic platform to reach thousands of children and promote the importance of health and wellbeing.
"Norgine’s European manufacturing headquarters has been based in Hengoed for over 50 years now and this partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to Gwent. As someone who works with the dedicated team here every day, I take real pride in supporting our local employees, their families, and the wider community we’re part of."
Mike Sage, Dragons RFC Head of Community, continues: “This season, as you cheer on the Dragons, remember that every tackle, every try, and every moment of passion on the field is mirrored by the incredible work happening off it. Together with Norgine, we're building a stronger, healthier, and more inspired Gwent!”
