Tiatia: We lacked accuracy in home farewell

09/05/2026

Head Coach Filo Tiatia admitted his team had lacked accuracy as they were beaten 24-15 by Edinburgh Rugby in the final home game of the BKT United Rugby Championship season in Newport.

Dillon Lewis and Harri Keddie grabbed tries on home soil, but the Men of Gwent failed to turn possession and territory into points as the Scots took the victory under the lights.

“We created enough opportunities to win that game - it was similar to Montpellier,” said Tiatia.

“We had some disallowed tries, knock-ons and got penalised in areas.

“We need some clarity around some decisions, but they were the better side because they took their chances.

“There wasn’t much flow to the game. It was a little stop start, but ultimately, we didn’t take our opportunities, we weren’t accurate.

“I said to the group in the huddle that we have got to stay tight.

“We have one more game against the Scarlets in Llanelli and we are looking forward to that.

“They are playing some good rugby. They play with tempo and bravery. Local derbies are special, so it is a good one to finish off with.”

Meanwhile, Tiatia said the club’s medical team would assess prop Rodrigo Martinez after he was forced off after less than two minutes at Rodney Parade.

“We will wait and see how Rodrigo is,” said Tiatia.

“I thought Rhodri Jones did well. He hasn’t played much rugby, but he went 78 minutes for the first time in a long time.

“There is a fair bit to tidy up but hopefully he pulls up well and is back in contention again.”
