Newport RFC, Pontypool and Ebbw Vale were in action in Super Rygbi Cymru this past weekend - with a mixed bag of results up and down the region, writes Jamie Preston.
Newport beat Bridgend at Newport Stadium in a 57-point game to make it six games undefeated – the highlight, though, for many was the return of Oli Woodman after 854 days out with injury.
The Dragons youngster was joined by club-mates Joe Westwood, James Benjamin and Joe Salter as the Black and Ambers ran ot 35-22 winners.
Two Dragons featured in Pontypool’s 38-14 loss to Aberavon – with full back Ewan Rosser among the try scorers.
It was an explosive start for Aberavon as they put 17 points on Pontypool within the first 30 minutes, with two tries from Scott Whitlock.
Pooler came out the better side in the second half with two tries in five minutes with Rosser – who was joined by club team-mate Luke Daniel -among the scorers.
However, the Wizards kept their composure and added more points towards the end of the game to run out 38-14 victors.
Meanwhile, two Dragons - Regan Jones and Carter Pritchard - also featured in the 23 in Ebbw Vale’s last-minute 34-33 win against Swansea RFC.
It was a last-gasp try from hooker and hat-trick hero Ieuan Morris that settled the game at Broadacre as the league leaders narrowly avoided a third successive league defeat.
