Head Coach Filo Tiatia has said his Dragons will embrace the challenge when they tackle champions Leinster in the BKT United Rugby Championship on Friday night (kick-off 7.45pm).
After a month without games during the autumn break, rugby returns to Rodney Parade.
And Tiatia is hoping his charges can show the improvements made during a busy spell on the training fields at Ystrad Mynach.
“You could call this time a mini pre-season,” he said. “The players have worked hard with the coaches to tighten up certain areas of our game where we need to be better.
“The players have been fantastic, worked hard, and we have a fantastic challenge now back at Rodney Parade against Leinster this Friday night.
“There are moments in the game where discipline is key, and we need to control that and do the basics well under pressure,” he added.
“We’ve worked on our collision area, but we most firstly get the basics done well.”
The Men of Gwent will be without five players away with Wales – Ben Carter, Brodie Coghlan, Chris Coleman, Rio Dyer and Aaron Wainwright – but Tiatia insists that means opportunities for others to excel.
“We have players away, but it gives other players the chance to put their hands up and say ‘pick me’.
“Wales have their last Test match this Saturday against South Africa and we are excited to see our players hopefully get an opportunity and don the red jersey.“
