Armstrong & Douglas in for Lyon clash

12/12/2025

Scrum half Niall Armstrong and second row Levi Douglas both start games for the first time at Rodney Parade as Dragons RFC face Lyon Olympique Universitaire in the EPCR Challenge Cup on Sunday (kick-off 3.15pm UK).

Head Coach Filo Tiatia makes a total of nine changes to the side defeated last weekend in France for the big Round 2 clash in Newport.

Five changes in the pack see a return for Wales international talisman Aaron Wainwright while with a new-look front row seeing Dylan Kelleher-Griffiths, Oli Burrows and Robert Hunt join forces.

The other change up front is the call-up for Douglas alongside Matthew Screech in the second row.

Scrum half Armstrong is paired with Tinus de Beer at half back while there is also a call-up for centre Aneurin Owen in midfield. Huw Anderson and Jared Rosser are selected on the wings. Angus O’Brien switches to full back and captains the side.

Former Wales Under-20s loosehead prop Jordan Morris could make his senior club debut from the bench while Ryan Woodman also returns.

Tiatia said: “We’re expecting a good Lyon side to come over and whatever they bring we have got to face it. We are looking forward to it.

“Lyon lost at home against Newcastle, and they will be disappointed, but we are also looking for a positive reaction.

“French teams like Lyon traditionally have a big pack and will work hard; they will have a good set piece and kicking game. And when the game is unstructured, they are very dangerous, so we know what is coming.

“We are in an exciting ten-week period. This is our third week and it’s an opportunity for us to make a turn.

“We need to get our preparation right. We’ve spoken as a group, staff and players, and it’s time to put a line in the sand.”
