Boss Filo Tiatia has acknowledged he is happy with the progress made in the first block of the season – but also turned his attention to the next run of fixtures and getting players ‘fit, fresh and ready to go’.
The Men of Gwent finished off an action-packed October with 14 points in the BKT United Rugby Championship and top eight placing after victories over Scarlets, Zebre and a draw with Benetton.
Dragons also recorded an opening with over Perpignan in the EPCR Challenge Cup.
Head Coach Tiatia now wants his side to build on a promising start to the league and cup campaign and admitted the next run of fixtures was crucial.
“I am happy where we are,” he stated. “We have worked around our connections and our belief in what we are trying to do.
“There are things we have added to our game. How can we keep that game going - that is the challenge.
“In the next few weeks, the boys will have programmes to follow, and the coaches will look at our game and analysing areas that are going well, but also those we need to tighten up.
“The next block is so important. We have five weeks before we hit Edinburgh and we need everyone fit.
“From Edinburgh to Munster we have nine games and the medical team are working hard to get people back. We need everyone fit, fresh and ready to go and scrap for the club.
“I remember when we played Zebre in Parma in my first season and we were leading for most of the game and we gifted the game,”he added.
“The group has shifted, there has been growth, particularly the young guys that finished the game well against Zebre. Harrison Keddie spoke well in the huddle at the end around growth.
“I was pleased to get the late maul try so I am happy with the group, but we’ve got some work to do.”
