Inaugural Dragons Community Award success

08/05/2026

Community success stories and stars - both in our own provisions and across Gwent – were recognised as the inaugural Dragons Community Awards took place at Rodney Parade this week.

A special night at the home of Dragons RFC saw us celebrate achievements within our community programme and across clubs, schools and organisations in our region.

Nominations were open earlier this year as we have looked to recognise excellence, commitment, and impact in community rugby and social inclusion initiatives.

Rhys Blumberg, CEO at Dragons RFC, said: “The Dragons Community team continue to lead the way in Wales. Every day they engage, inspire and deliver incredible lifelong impact across Gwent, through innovative, diverse and inclusive community activations.

“Mike Sage Head of Community) and his staff deserve huge praise for delivering our ever expanding ‘Family of Provisions’ that encompass sport, education, inclusion, outreach, health, and wellbeing to drive positive change and create inspiring opportunities for all generations. Many individuals who play under the umbrella of the Dragons Community team were recognised and celebrated on the night.

“The evening also saw us recognise community heroes across several categories. We had invited the people of Gwent to nominate those who they felt made a difference and the response was overwhelming with stories of incredible dedication and lifechanging influence.

“Every single one of the nominees was already a winner – the work they do, the time they give and impact they make is an inspiration to us all.

“Our thanks to all our sponsors for helping make the evening a reality, alongside all our guests who supported the first-ever awards. We look forward to watching these awards grow in the years to come.”
