Head Coach Filo Tiatia recently joined forces with the Dragons Community team to help deliver part of the Dragons Prison Support provision.
Dragons Community have a long-term partnership with HMP Parc in Bridgend having delivered many sessions over the years at the facility.
As part of the club’s Dragons Prison Support programme, Tiatia joined Mike Sage – Head of Dragons Community – to make a visit to give his time, coaching expertise and give advice to several young men.
The day saw a session focus on communication, leadership, respect, team work, work ethic, discipline, energy and decision making.
Mike Sage said: “It was such an impactful session with loads of enthusiasm and learning as always.
“The power of sport cannot be underestimated in engaging, inspiring and shaping people’s lives for the better.
“Our thanks go to Filo and HMP Parc’s Matthew Williams for the support.”
Matthew Williams, Head of PE and Wellbeing Manager at HMP Parc, said: “A massive thank you to Filo for facilitating a hugely engaging, interactive and enjoyable coaching and Q&A session at HMP Parc.
“The group were hugely appreciated of the time and commitment shown towards them by Filo in delivering a fantastic insight into professional coaching.
“Engaging in rugby coaching offers a multitude of benefits for the prisoners. It promotes physical fitness, helping them improve their health and well-being.
“The team-oriented nature of the sport fosters social connections and a sense of belonging, which can be particularly valuable in a prison and community environment.
“Through the structure of the training, participants learn discipline and commitment, while also developing essential life skills such as strategic thinking and problem-solving.
“Perhaps most importantly, the emotional support and camaraderie built during these sessions provide a vital outlet for stress and a sense of hope for the future.
“By investing in the rehabilitation of prisoners, HMP Parc and Dragons RFC are not only helping individuals but also contributing to the overall safety and well-being of the community,” he added.
“The partnership between HMP Parc and Dragons RFC is a shining example of how sports can be a catalyst for change. Through these rugby training sessions, they are not just promoting physical fitness; they are helping to build a brighter future for those involved.
“This initiative serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that community partnerships can have when organisations come together for a common purpose, proving that with support and opportunity, transformation is possible.”
