Rodney Parade will host a standalone Women’s BUCS Super Rugby Milk Championship Final next season.
The home of Dragons RFC, Newport RFC and Newport County has played host to the culmination of the men’s and women’s BUCS Super Rugby seasons for the last two years.
But from next season the men’s and women’s finals will take place on individual days as part of new calendar changes announced by British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS), the Rugby Football Union (RFU), Premiership Women's Rugby (PWR), and the Celtic Challenge.
Work has been made to align the 26/27 women's performance rugby union calendar across international fixtures, the PWR Cup, PWR League, Celtic Challenge, Women’s BUCS Super Rugby (WBSR), and RFU age-grade international camps.
And as a result, a standalone Women’s Rugby Union event, combining the Milk Championship Final and WBSR Playoff, is now scheduled to be hosted at Rodney Parade on Wednesday, March 17.
Dan Roberts, BUCS National Performance Manager, said: “The collaboration with key stakeholders has been essential to producing a performance calendar that supports the development of women’s rugby across the UK, and recognises the role higher education institutions have within the pathway.
“The co-designed WBSR competition programme will ensure an exceptional experience for student-athletes by supporting those that are moving between environments throughout the season as well as providing opportunities of a higher standard for those looking to make the next step in their journey.”
