Dragons RFC backroom ace Richard Hughes – our Mobility, Recovery, & S&C coach - will be putting his best foot forward in the coming days as he supports the Prostate Cymru Walk of Wales.
The Walk of Wales 2026 is a gruelling 1,012-mile, 44-day walking challenge organised by Prostate Cymru. A core team of nine walkers is currently navigating the full circumference of Wales (coastal path and Offa's Dyke) to raise £300,000, which will fund six specialist NHS cancer nurses across the country.
The massive fundraising journey - which began in Cardiff on June 27 and is slated to end in the Welsh capital on August 9 - features designated public legs and includes local PSA testing and awareness events. Dragons are delighted to confirm the final leg on August 9 will start at Rodney Parade before heading to the Welsh capital.
Backroom ace Hughes is playing his part by supporting the walk in North Wales this week where he will again be helping with S&C, recovery and rehab needs during this amazing challenge as an ambassador for Prostate Cymru. Richard will also join the final two days of the walk and final leg into Cardiff next month.
HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?
Organiser are inviting supporters to join them on different sections of the walk throughout the summer. Each route varies in length and difficulty so there’s a challenge for everyone:
The remaining public legs can be seen below:
- Sunday 26th July - Tyn-y-Gongl to Beaumaris (11.6 miles)
- Tuesday 4th August - Kington to Hay (14.9 miles)
- Sunday 9th August - Rodney Parade to Principality Stadium (17.3 miles)
Andy Thomas, Chairman of Prostate Cymru and a front runner of the challenge, said: “With each step, we want to raise awareness, inspire men to get tested, and fund vital support for families affected by this disease. The aim is to fund six Specialist Cancer Nurses so we can improve patient outcomes and enhance the quality of life for men and their families across the nation.”
The Walk of Wales 2026 is more than a physical achievement; it’s a nationwide call to action, turning every mile walked into a potential lifeline for men across Wales. Follow their journey, join a walk, and support the mission to put men’s health first.
